Dr. Lori Robinson - 3 Takeaways

Creating and producing the Player Development Pod has been a great joy for me. I spoke in detail about this in a blog post. (https://www.btfprogram.com/blog/10k-plays-what-ive-learned-about-podcasting)

Season One’s purpose was to provide education and insight into the player development profession. Season Two’s purpose was to highlight those who do the work in the player development space. There are many different titles these guests hold, but the common denominator is they all help enhance the lives of athletes.

I have enjoyed getting to hear the work these incredible professionals provide for those under their influence. One thing I’ve done personally for my growth is take away three things from our conversations. I’ve shared these takeaways on social media but wanted to expand the reach of these gems by bringing them to the blog space.

This #3Takeaways blog highlights Dr. Lori Robinson. Here is a link to our conversation: https://youtu.be/o1rHJhg3pbg

Enjoy the below takeaways.

3 Takeaways From Dr. Lori Robinson

1. Reach Out

In the episode Dr. Lori talked about how she reached out to Jameel McClain to find out what his day was like in player engagement. From there they had many similarities and he brought her on to help her department. By inquiring she found the next stop in her career.

2. Create Impactful Spaces

In the episode Dr. Lori spoke about how she creates spaces to engage her athletes on the daily. In player development/engagement you won’t always have the athletes come and sit in your office. Dr. Lori shared how she strategically brings her “office” to the players.

3. Don’t Get Attached to Football

Dr. Lori shared advice letting people know not to get caught on working in football, the NFL, and the SEC. She advised that work at small schools and smaller experiences will allow many to learn so many new avenues of impact. She states this is time to get to know if your values align with the work you’re doing.

Player Development Advice: “Don’t get attached to football. Smaller schools and smaller experiences will teach you so much more. The impact you can have can be so much greater. Explore all options. Get down to who you are, what you truly want to do, impact you want to have, do those values align with were you want to go.”
