Season One’s purpose was to provide education and insight into the player development profession. Season Two’s purpose was to highlight those who do the work in the player development space. There are many different titles these guests hold, but the common denominator is they all help enhance the lives of athletes.

I have enjoyed getting to hear the work these incredible professionals provide for those under their influence. One thing I’ve done personally for my growth is take away three things from our conversations. I’ve shared these takeaways on social media but wanted to expand the reach of these gems by bringing them to the blog space.

1. Follow Your Passion

Coach Hull was working in the engineering field with NASA but had the coaching itch. He started by volunteering and providing value to programs. Your passion may not make sense to others, but you can create impact when you follow your passion.

2. Set Foundation First

When Coach Hull started at Warren Easton, he hired coaches who were impactful men and then taught them how to coach football. In the episode he speaks of creating the foundation for developing players first and then the winning came.

3. Empowering Leadership

Coach Hull spoke about how assesses and evaluates those under his influence. He looks for who the individuals are and what their passionate about then uses that to achieve the overall goal.

Coaching Advice: “If you make moves for the love and art of the craft and develop. You will have more success in the profession.”
