There are three scenarios head coaches will see when it comes to player development.

  • Scenario One: They will have to create player development

  • Scenario Two: They will have to hire someone in the player development position

  • Scenario Three: They will take over a program where player development is established 


Today we will talk about hiring player development for your program. There are three foundational areas you need in the person you hire in this role:

  • Relationship Builder

    • Relationships are the basis of this position and success is only found in the role from someone who creates beneficial relationships.

  • Learner

    • This position works with so many departments all throughout the athletic department and new processes will need to be learned daily. 

  • Flexible

    • There are never two of the same days in player development, so the person in the role must be able to adjust daily.
